FAQ for Immune Candle

Why is it called Immune Candle?
The immune candle was conceived by Reno Rolle Jr., the son of Boku founders Lynn and Reno Rolle. Along with the product concept, the name “Immune Candle” just popped into Reno Jr’s head. In his own words, “it was a gift.” The immune candle pays homage to the ancient Four Thieves of the 15th century.
According to the Thieves Oil legend, during the Plague epidemic of the 15th century, a band of burglars swept the countryside and robbed the dead without becoming infected. Finally, four thieves were captured in Marseilles, France and offered up their secret to immunity, in exchange for leniency.  It was disclosed that these thieves were perfumers and spice traders who had rubbed themselves and doused their clothing with a concoction of functional essential oils, including eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, lemon and others.
What does it smell like?
Our product development team worked for more than one year with industry leading experts to formulate the proprietary blend of essential oils used in the immune candle. The dominant notes in our blend are eucalyptus, rosemary and peppermint which give the Immune Candle a luxurious and comforting aroma that is perhaps reminiscent of an exquisite vapor-rub, but with much more natural, aromatic complexity. These organic essential oils emit a much more subtle fragrance and aroma than synthetic chemicals and perfumes found in most popular candles. With all of the positive properties of these essential oils (high frequency, oxygenating molecules, etc.) being emitted into the air, the beautiful aroma that fills the room is simply a bonus.
How long will it burn?
The burn time for the 4 oz. Immune Candle is estimated at 20 to 24 hours.
The 20 oz. Immune Cannon will burn for 100 hours (8 days, 8 hours).
It is imperative to allow the immune candle to burn for a minimum of 3 hours upon first lighting, or until melt pool reaches the edge of the candle container. This complete melt pool will provide maximum surface area of the essential oils ensuring optimal “hot throw” and burn time.
How long should the wick be?
There are a few simple steps for getting the maximum enjoyment from your Imune candle: The wick doesn’t burn completely and needs to be trimmed before relighting to be 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch in length. This will minimize soot and remove any mushrooming of the wick left by the previous burn.
First Time lighting what do I do?
When lighting your Immune  candle for the first time, allow the wax to pool all the way to the sides of the container. (Pooling is simply defined as melted wax. The initial burn of any candle should last as long as it takes for the melted wax to reach all the way to the edges of the jar .) This will give you maximum fragrance and minimize the wax remaining along the sides of the container.
Is it safe for kids & pets?
As with all candles, lit Boku Immune Candles should not be left unattended with children or pets due to safety hazards. Please see “instructions” for further safety information.
Is it sold in stores?
With the exception of medical wellness centers and the world’s finest spa resorts, BōKU® products are only available online, shipped directly to consumer’s homes.
What is Coconut wax?
Coconut wax is created by cold pressing organic coconut oil out of the coconut meat. It is then filtered and cleared. Our organic coconut wax is made from only the most pristine, biodegradable and 100% natural ingredients.
Why no Paraffin?
We specifically avoided the use of Paraffin wax due to the many dangers of burning such candles in your home. Unfortunately, most people are unaware of what paraffin wax really is. The strong scents typically accompanied with Paraffin wax candles can often be alluring…but is that worth burning petroleum leftovers in your home? Yes, that’s right. Paraffin wax is nothing but a bi-product of the refining process to make gasoline. (Just add some industrial strength bleach and some other ingredients and presto!) As you can probably imagine, burning a bi-product of petroleum is not in the best interest of your health and that of your loved ones. Did you know Paraffin wax emits 11 known carcinogens while burning? These include benzene, toluene, and formaldehyde (also a known respiratory irritant). Burning paraffin wax in your home exponentially decreases the air quality of our homes, and increases toxins going into our lungs.
Are the Candles made in the USA?
Yes! Boku Immune Candle’s are proudly manufactured America!
My candle isn’t melting evenly & favoring one side,  why & how do I fix it?
More than likely this is due to the wick not being centered. Extinguish the flame and center the wick; allow wax to set up and then re-light.
My candle has a big hole around the wick?
This is referred to as “tunneling.” If you don’t allow the wax to pool on the first burn of your Immune candle (or any candle), you may experience “tunneling.” This means the wax simply burns down the center of the candle, leaving wax on the side of the jar. It is essential to let the candle burn upon first lighting for three hours or until a complete melt pool is established to the edge of the candle container.
I see you use organic essential oils, how are these different from synthetic oils?
Our essential oils are drawn from natural, organic plants. These essential oils are basically the DNA of plants, the oils being their “life blood.” Some plant DNA contains beneficial qualities.Synthetic oils are manmade and likely contain toxic substances that are harmful to our health.
What does it mean when you say the Immune Candle has a ‘Great Throw”?
“Hot Throw” refers to the amount of fragrance and/or essential oils that are thrown into the air while burning. “Cold Throw” refers to the amount of fragrance created while the candle is unlit.
Will your candle produce that toxic black soot?
Nope, no black soot here! Due to the all natural ingredients used in the Boku Immune Candle, it will not create black soot. The only thing the Boku Immune Candle will produce is a lovely scent, warming feeling, and clean air! The black soot you see forming around your candles & on the walls or ceilings of your home, is a bi-product of burning wax such as Paraffin. This soot contains some of the same toxins found in diesel fuel! We are proud to say that because we use all organic coconut wax and organic essential oils, you will not experience that unsightly and hazardous soot that comes from burning Paraffin wax candles.
I have asthma and/or allergies. Will burning the Immune Candle affect my breathing?
We use only the finest, all natural, organic essential oils and ingredients. However, different fragrances affect people in different ways. If the Immune Candle should trigger asthmatic, allergic or any other adverse reaction, we recommend avoiding it. It’s always a good idea to consult your medical professional.
