BōKU® Super Food Testimonial

I am on my third month of BōKU® Super Food and must say I feel a difference in my overall sense of well being. I feel healthier, stronger and have noticed a great increase in energy. I have been around plenty who have had the flu and have been able to ward this off so I am a firm believer that BōKU® boosts the immune system a great deal. I am now officially a BōKU® FAN and spreading the health to others every chance I get! I feel BōKU® speaks for itself but you won’t know until you try it. You will love it!

How to Improve Sleep Naturally
By Whole Food Nutritionist Khabir Southwick

> Remove all power cords, plugs and especially cell phones from near your bed and make sure that all electrical appliances in the room are off or at least create no light or sound.

> Avoid sleeping on a box spring mattress with a noisy steel frame and use a cotton based futon with a wooden frame/place directly on the floor instead.

> Go to bed at the same time each night, for most people the ideal time is around 10 PM.

> Avoid snacking after dinner and before bedtime, particularly avoid snacking on grains and sugars. Don't go to bed hungry or after eating a large meal. If you have to eat before bed, have a high-protein snack like milk, eggs or seeds.

> Keep the temperature in your bedroom below 71 degrees Fahrenheit (ideally between 60-68 degrees F). The ideal room temperature for the most effectivesleepis generally agreed to be between 64-68 degrees Fahrenheit. If it gets much colder or warmer your sleep may become impaired. Don’t use syntactic blankets or heating blankets. Use wool blankets - wool regulates your body temperature.

> Avoid caffeine, even in the day time and eliminate alcohol, particularly at night. Alternatively, have green tea in the day and tulsi tea in evening.

> Exercise regularly but not near bedtime. Regular active exercise during the day and mild exercise before retiring at night enhances the quantity and the quality of sleep. Simple forms of exercise such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator and opting to walk short distances rather than take a car could help to maintain a fit and flexible body without being time consuming.

Lynn’s Trip to Washington

Hello everyone! Last month I had the pleasure of being invited by our California Congresswoman Lois Capps, to Job Creation Day in Washington D.C., October 25, 2011. Flying to D.C. was a great experience and I was actually able to give some input as to what I felt could be done from a business owner’s perspective, in order to create jobs and help our economy grow. I feel so privileged that my opinions where heard firsthand by our representatives in the United States Government!

Our day’s work started off with opening remarks from Representative Steny Hoyer, the Minority Whip and went on to include several panels. In the first panel, we discussed ideas to stimulate job creation and economic growth. In the second, ensuring long term economic growth and competitiveness in the world economy. Lastly, we discussed creating local jobs on California’s central coast. I gave my opinions on stimulating job growth including lowering taxes on small businesses so that companies like BōKU® can create more jobs in California and easing government restrictions on small community banks.

I was able to meet with the Obama Administration Officials and took a group photo on the U.S. Capitol steps as well. It was refreshing to learn that some people in Congress actually do care and are willing to listen to the opinions of business owners like me.

> Milk is invaluable in cases of insomnia. A glass of milk, sweetened with honey and nutmeg, should be taken every night before going to bed in treating this condition. It acts as a tonic and a tranquillizer. The Nutmeg has a 4-6 hour delayed sedative effect.

> A sesame oil massage on the feet in the evening has proven very effective to induce sleep.

> Include daily regular practice of any relaxation method, meditation technique or prayer.

> Follow the technique of slow and deep-abdominal breathing every time you feel anxiety or stress building up. This will definitely help manage the stress in your life.

> Cultivating the art of doing things slowly, particularly activities like eating, walking and talking. This will help you to spend time enjoying activities rather than it being a boring routine action that needs to be completed.

> If you can, slowly start limiting your working day hours and the working week. Avoid setting unrealistic targets; it will go a long way in relieving stress and frustration in your life.

> Cultivate a creative hobby like playing an instrument, gardening, reading or doing handcrafts, then spend some time daily with your hobby to greatly reduce stress and improve your quality of life.

> Take a hot bath with about ½ to 1 cup of Epson salts and relaxing aroma therapy oils like chamomile, lemon balm, lavender etc. can be used as well.

Stress Matters

Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful: grateful for your family, for your job, your friends and for your health but did you know that stress could be preventing you from fully appreciating these things this Thanksgiving? According to the American Psychological Association, 44% of Americans in 2011 reported that their stress levels have increased over the past five years. Additionally, the survey revealed that Americans aren’t coping well with their stress, 27% being happy about their exercise levels and two-fifths reporting that they were overeating or eating unhealthy foods due to stress. Long term health problems caused by poorly managed stress are generally accepted to include sleep problems, depression, obesity, heart disease and skin conditions, such as eczema, so dealing with stress in a healthy way could be more important than you think.

Eating healthy throughout the day as well as getting enough exercise and sleep could increase your body’s resistance to stress and give you the strength you need to have the best Thanksgiving ever! One great way to cut down on stress in the mornings is by mixing up a quick BōKU® shake for breakfast. It only takes a minute to mix BōKU®Super Food and BōKU®  Super Protein with your favorite juice and you’ll be getting more nutrition than most people will eat in a week! With so much powerful nutrition, you’ll feel great and you’ll be ready to take on your day with new vigor. This Thanksgiving, try mixing BōKU®Super Food into your favorite holiday dish for a boost of healthy nutrition.

Ingredients:

-2 cups raw almonds, soaked for 2 hours and drained
-35 pitted dates, soaked for 2 hours and drained
-2 cups raw pecans, soaked for 2 hours and drained
-1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
-3 tablespoons of Coconut oil
-2 scoops of BōKU Super Food

Preparation:
To create the crust, put the soaked and drained almonds and 10 of the soaked dates into a food processor and blend until the mixture is as smooth as desired. Melt your coconut oil by putting the jar under some hot water and coat the inside of your pan with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Spread the almond mixture evenly over the surface of the pan to create the crust.
To create the filling, first clean your food processor and then add the pecans, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, cinnamon, vanilla and BōKU Super Food. Blend this mixture until it is smooth and then spoon the filling into the crust. Put the pie in the refrigerator for at least one our so that it sets and then serve. This pie tastes great, is relatively healthy and it goes great with any holiday meal!

BōKU® Eco Tip
The number one eco tip for this Thanksgiving is to buy organic and local. Purchase fresh, locally grown produce from your farmers market to serve in your Thanksgiving meal. Did you know that most produce you see in super markets has been in transit and sitting at the market for 2 weeks before you purchase it? Buy food from local sources, they will contain more nutrients and cut down on carbon emissions created in transporting food items to your table.
