AKA: The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act
Let’s face it….laws can prove to be tricky to understand sometimes. When it comes to Prop 65, some of the language can even be frightening. We hope it will be to your relief that we’ve already done our homework on this one and want to share with you (in understandable language!) what exactly Prop 65 is. The ever growing list of aforementioned chemicals is updated at least once a year by law and has now grown to include over 800 chemicals.
With this proposition, premises and products thought to contain above “safe” levels of these chemicals are required to state in plain sight of the customer: “Warning: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or reproductive harm.”
By far the most unsettling ramification of this proposition is the waive of labels being forced upon the good guys: Organic brands selling wholesome, naturally occurring nutritious products. If you haven’t already, get ready to see an influx of frightening labels plastered among your favorite organic brands anywhere they are sold in California.
