Excellent for cold/flu season to create immune defense
Have you had a good, liberating nasal cleanse lately?! Yeah - you probably don’t get asked that question every day. And, you probably don’t actually know how amazing it feels to have a good nasal cleanse! Let’s discuss.
You’re likely familiar with the practice of steam inhalation. Especially when we’re afflicted with the oh-so-common cold virus, we stock up on tea tree oil and eucalyptus, insert a few drops into a pot of boiling water, put a towel over our heads, and breeeeeeathe deeply. Ahh. It feels so good to get that relief. Or, if you’ve used a neti pot, you know a similar “ahhh” feeling of sinus clarity.
Nasya accomplishes something quite similar.
But what exactly is nasya? In Ayurveda - of the oldest systems of medicine in the world, from India - there is an ancient practice called nasya, in which oil is inserted straight up into the nostril. While the nasal passage is a direct gateway to our sinus network, and inserting oil can be hugely beneficial to that, Ayurvedic practice also considers it to be a passage to our prana. Prana is our life force, or our vital energy. That is, an oiled up nose can improve respiration, oxygenation and circulation, can increase overall energy, help stuck feelings move through, and allow for deeper breathing.
Our nasal cavities are highly absorbent, and we may as well take advantage of that fact and rub some excellent herbs in there, right? Also, when our noses get really, really dry, the result may be either irritation and redness, and itchiness, and all kinds of similarly uncomfortable sensations. When we hydrate and nourish the nasal cavity, not only do we eliminate that irritation, we actually prevent colds and other viruses from entering. An excellent preventative measure.
We have developed a refreshing and clearing nasal oil inspired by this wonderful ancient Ayurvedic tradition. We’ve infused it with a powerful probiotic which may help to flush out sinus infections, or prevent them in the first place.
Our particular formula contains: sesame oil, eucalyptus oil, spearmint oil, silica, boswellia serrate, vitamin E, and streptococcus salivarius probiotic. Sesame oil has been long used in Ayurveda for its versatile list of healing properties. It is known for lubrication and protection of the nasal passages. It adds a nice, nutty aroma, too! Eucalyptus is commonly used in steam inhalations to clear the sinuses - it does so by acting on receptors in the nasal mucous membranes.
Place a drop of Boku nose oil on the little finger and carefully insert it into the nostril.
Gently massage the inner walls of the nasal passage.
Pinch and release your nostrils rapidly while breathing in sharply.
Best used in the morning or evening before bed (but use it whenever you’d like!)
