Also known as natures chocolate chips, cacao nibs are made from pure cacao beans that come straight out of the tropical cacao fruit. Cacao was a culinary treasure to Mesoamericans for thousands of years and touted as the “Food of the Gods” for its superior nutritional profile and exceptional flavor. Cacao Nibs are crunchy chocolate just as nature intended, in an easy to use and versatile form.

Most people assume that since cacao nibs are derived as a kind of chocolate that they are sweet like candy. BUT cacao nibs have a very unique and natural flavor. They taste almost like unsweetened dark chocolate, though a little more on the bitter side. They have somewhat of a nutty texture, and are accompanied by a nice little crunch!

Do cacao nibs have caffeine?

If so, how much?

No, cacao nibs do not contain caffeine. They contain Theobromine, which is similar to caffeine, but it does not have the same stimulating properties.

What is the small little pouch inside of my product?

This is called a “sachet” or “desiccant” and it is there solely to remove any moisture that may get into your product after you reseal it and are made out of natural clay. This means in the off chance it should open up in your product, there is absolutely no cause for alarm. These should be left as-is in your product to keep it at optimal freshness.

Do I need to refrigerate BōKU® Super Food after I open it?

We don’t recommend it! BōKU® Super Food is a dry, stable powder. Refrigerators tend to hold moisture, and the inside of a refrigerator can vary wildly depending on how often it’s opened & closed, plus where you live. Once mixed with liquid & re-hydrated, the enzymes in the food reactivate putting it back into a raw state. We recommend drinking it quickly or keeping it chilled in order to maintain maximum nutritional value.
