Dermatitis / Skin Rash
Eczema is a type of skin rash, or dermatitis, with some notable characteristics, including difficulty in eradicating it and its tendency to flare up somewhat violently, with
- Redness and itching
- Dry, flakey, or cracking skin
Eczema can appear anywhere on the body, but common locations include the chest; skin folds, such as the breasts and buttocks, and the face.
What Causes Eczema?
Eczema has many possible causes, but most tend to narrow it down to a few major factors, including:
- Poor liver and blood health: Diet and environmental toxins, as well as viruses, can compromise the liver and blood and result in eczema.
- Stress: There appears to be a connection between eczema and stress and between eczema and excess caffeine.
- Iron deficiency: Low iron levels have been linked to eczema, along with low levels of trace minerals.
- Allergies: Food and environmental allergies can cause the skin rashes associated with eczema. Clothing and airborne allergens are two possibilities that are often overlooked.
Apply Listerine (an antifungal) or a methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) preparation to the affected area and do not wash off (use original Listerine, not the flavored variety that contain sweeteners). Continue applying daily until the eczema patches are gone.
Take B vitamins, vitamin A, inositol, copper, iodine (seaweeds), dry vitamin E, MSM, picolinated zinc, and probiotics (for example, acidophilus and bifidophilus).
As is the case with dandruff, herbalists believe that eczema is a disorder of the liver and blood, so they recommend burdock root to detoxify the blood and liver. Along this line, eczema may be a symptom of iron deficiency, so try taking iron supplements to see if they help.
Specifically for skin problems such as eczema, consider mixing burdock with red clover or cleavers, as they help the lymph system clean toxins from the blood.

Wear only cotton clothes and don’t use perfumes. Use only hypoallergenic lotions and moisturize the patches with those lotions. Stay away from alpha hydroxy creams or creams with urea; they burn.
