Mindful Moment: Gratitude

Mindful Moment: Gratitude

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” Eckhart Tolle

In our busy worlds it’s easy to move through day-to-day routines on auto-pilot, never pausing to acknowledge the things — large and small — that bring us joy. Savoring a delicious cup of gelato, embracing our children, playing with a beloved pet.

Taking a few moments each morning or night to write down the things that delighted you that day will brighten your life … and your attitude.

A study by researchers at the University of Florida and University of Minnesota revealed that people who jotted down a list of positive things at the end of a day and expressed why they brought them happiness experienced lower stress levels and a heightened sense of calm. Brilliant, right?

Start a daily gratitude journal today.

You don’t need a special notebook; you can scribble your gratitude list on scrap paper in a pinch. The important thing is that you practice the practice daily. When you’re feeling down, reread your journal and remember all the beauty that lurks in your life.

“Gratitude works its magic by serving as an antidote to negative emotions. It’s like white blood cells for the soul, protecting us from cynicism, entitlement, anger, and resignation.” – Arianna Huffington
